Ernesto utiliza la pintura en relación con el paisaje, un género tradicional que remite a la ilusión del entorno. “Al igual que la pintura, nuestro entorno es siempre subjetivo; transitarlo es un ejercicio de reflexión, ya que es nuestra experiencia individual—sus signos y símbolos— aquello que nos sirve de guía para dar sentido a sus formas y así poder navegar el mundo. Es paradójico reconocernos a nosotros mismos dentro de un entorno compartido, y la pintura funciona como un escenario abierto desde el cual es posible observar el lugar desde donde miramos lo común y lo subjetivo.

Ernesto Soto studied Fine Arts and Art History at Universidad de los Andes (2016) and later specialized in painting at the University of the Arts London, Camberwell College of Arts (2025).

Ernesto engages painting in relation to landscape, a traditional genre that evokes the illusion of setting. “Like painting itself, our surroundings are always subjective; dwelling in them becomes an act of reflection, as it is our individual experience—its signs and symbols—which guides and gives us a sense of it. There is an irony in recognizing ourselves within a shared environment, and painting works as an open stage in which we can look at the place from which we perceive what is common and what is subjective.
